Questions and answers

Frequently asked question How is Message Bureau different from other Unified Messaging services?
Answer

Message Bureau is a very professional virtual assistant service.   Unlike most unified messaging services, which tend to sound robotic or mechanical and be very basic and limited in their capabilities, Message Bureau's Fast Connect and Virtual Office services were designed to be a powerful and flexible business communications tool that actually enhances, not detracts from, your professional business image.  Having Fast Connect is more like hiring a very professional and reliable assistant to answer and forward all of your calls to you wherever you are.  Just a few of the key differences between Message Bureau and your run-of-the-mill unified messaging services are:

  • Fast Connect allows you to have calls actually ring-through to you so you can talk to callers live instead of always sending them to voicemail.
  • Fast Connect allows you to change the number we try you at on the fly.  The system will even try you at a second or third  number if we don't reach you at the first.
  • Fast Connect allows you to screen your callers using caller ID WITHOUT their knowledge and take only the calls you want sending the rest to voicemail so they can leave you a message.
  • Fast Connect will handle simultaneous calls to your number without letting anyone get a busy or ring-no-answer.
  • Fast Connect can handle after-hours calls differently than during hours calls - giving you back a life.
  • Fast Connect is extremely powerful and flexible as well as expandable so it can easily accommodate changes in your business needs.

Additionally, Message Bureau has been around since 1999,  that's saying a lot in this industry.  Message Bureau is also an evolving service provider constantly growing and adapting to changes in technology and the world as we know it.  Unlike other service providers, we develop ALL of our own technology "in-house" which gives us complete control over the service offering.  Equally important is the human element. We hire only intelligent, passionate people with a sense of humor and train them in depth on the service, the industry and our customer's needs, making our service second to none. That's why we can say with confidence that our customers enjoy the highest quality service with less down-time than with any other service provider, have the most problem solving features at their disposal year after year and the best customer service in the industry!

Frequently asked question How does Message Bureau's price compare with other solutions?
Answer We believe Fast Connect and Virtual Office are  hands-down the most professional, most powerful and most service oriented virtual assistant service available! But please note - we didn't say "the least expensive".

You see, we believe that you can't be all things to all people - and it's simply not possible to offer the highest quality, the most features and best customer service and be the least expensive service out their - they are mutually exclusive.  That's why we decided early on to narrow our focus on meeting the needs of a small group of value minded people who want and need a high quality, very professional, very sophisticated and very powerful communications solution that will help them make their business a success at an affordable price. By narrowing our focus in this way we became the leader in our market.

When you're the best, everyone wants to copy you, and Fast Connect has received no shortage of compliments from knock off competitors trying to offer something "somewhat similar" in bulk at a cheaper price in order to cash in.  If you're hunting for a solution based upon price alone (and that's okay if you are) - you will probably be able to find a cheaper solution somewhere - but remember, you do get what you pay for.  We're not for everyone (we don't try to be) - but for those who need what we offer - we're a true partner in success.

Frequently asked question Do I need any special equipment, software or dedicated telephone lines to use Fast Connect?
Answer Absolutely not! Fast Connect is a service you subscribe to. All you need is a touch tone telephone (office, home or even cellular) to enjoy the most powerful and professional virtual assistant service available today.
Frequently asked question When do I start being billed for a call, and do I still get billed once I connect to my caller?
Answer Because Fast Connect is billed for all calls to your toll free number, we in turn bill you for any and all calls to your toll free number.  Billing starts when anyone, including yourself, calls into your toll free number and the call is automatically answered by the system with your company greeting.  "Inbound" calls refer to any caller dialing your toll free number.

If and when a caller selects to speak with you, Fast Connect has to generate a second long distance call back out of the system to your current ring-to destination.  If the call is long distance and when someone (or something) answers, we start billing you the lower "outbound" rate per minute to cover our cost of the second long distance call. However if the call from your Fast Connect number is local to the 5 New York City area codes, then this leg of the call is FREE.   If your line is busy or you don't answer, the system redirects your call back to voice mail and you pay just the inbound rate per minute only if you elect to use a toll free 888, 877, 866, 800 number. Of course, If you use one of our "212" area code numbers then both legs of the call are free. If a call goes straight to voicemail on a toll free number, for example you have hours of operation enabled and they call you "after hours", then you would only pay the inbound rate per minute.  If you use a "212" Fast Connect number your call costs you nothing, especially if you retrieve your messages from your computer via the internet.

Frequently asked question Am I charged for checking messages?
Answer You are only charged for checking voice mail messages if you call your toll free number to log-in and listen to them.  As explained in the question above, we are charged by our carrier anytime anyone calls your toll free number including yourself, so we have to pass those cost onto you.  In order to circumvent that additional cost to you, Fast Connect is one of the first service providers to offer voicemail to email delivery.  Voicemail to email delivery automatically emails you a copy of any voicemail message left for you. The message is promptly delivered to your email address as a .wav file attachment which you can easily listen to through your computer speakers.
Frequently asked question What happens to a call if I'm on the phone, will my caller hear a busy?
Answer Never. Fast Connect can detect if you're on the phone and will automatically send the caller to your voice mailbox so you're caller can leave you a message. Because Fast Connect can handle several simultaneous calls to your toll free or "212" number and voice mailbox you'll never have to worry about busies or blockage again.
Frequently asked question I have call waiting on my telephone line now. Do I have to give that up to use Fast Connect?
Answer Absolutely not! A Fast Connect call works like any other call in that sense. Here's what will happen: You're on the phone and you get a call waiting tone. You flash hook to take the other call. Fast Connect announces the call as usual (i.e. "Fast Connect, call for John Smith from New York, New York. To accept it press 1, to send it to voice mail press 2.  So now you can either take the call or send it to voice mail (without your caller ever knowing they were screened). If you choose to ignore the call waiting tone because you can't be interrupted, Fast Connect will time out and send your caller to your voice mail box so they can leave you a message.
Frequently asked question What happens if I'm not home and my fax answers...will callers be connected to my fax?
Answer No. Fast Connect can detect if a device, such as a fax, or modem answers in which case it will automatically send the call to your voice mailbox. If you want callers to be able to send you a fax, don't worry.  Virtual Office Service includes auto fax detect.  Your number will automatically detect the CNG tone sent out by the fax sender's machine and switch to fax receive mode.  You will then be emailed the fax to the email address of your choosing.
Frequently asked question What happens if my cell phone voice mail answers?
Answer Fast Connect will  connect your caller to any other voice mail unless you instruct us not to do so, we do this by adjusting the number of rings before trying the next number or being pulled back to voice mail.
Frequently asked question Do I need to use call forwarding from Bell to forward my calls to other locations when I'm on the road?
Answer Not with Fast Connect. When you're on the road and want to have your Fast Connect calls follow you, all you have to do is call into your Voice mail Options  Menu and change your primary ring-to destination to be the new number. From that point on all of your Fast Connect calls will ring you directly at the new number until you change it again.  If you travel frequently you can have Fast Connect try you at your main number first (i.e. office ) and if you don't answer there, it will automatically try you at a second and third number (i.e. your cell phone or home).  Fast Connect and Virtual Office will NOT try you at more than three numbers because we don't believe it's a good idea to have callers wait too long lest they get frustrated and hang up without leaving you a message.
Frequently asked question Can Fast Connect try me at a second or third number if I don't answer at the first?

Yes. Fast Connect can attempt to reach you at a second number if you don't answer your primary ring-to destination. Your second and third destination numbers can point to an alternate number for you such as your cell phone, or to a different person for backup coverage or to a third party answering or order taking service.
Frequently asked question Can my calls be routed to a live operator service or fulfillment center to take messages or orders?
Answer Sure. While Fast Connect does not offer live operator answering or order taking (it's not our core competence), we can route calls to virtually any destination including a third party answering or message center service.
Frequently asked question How does an Extension work, is it like a pin code my customers have to dial to reach me like other toll free voice mail services do?
Answer Absolutely not! Fast Connect was the first virtual office phone service to offer real Extensions - just like big company's have - but better.

Like extensions in big companies, Fast Connect allows you to assign yourself, and as you grow, each of your partners or employees, their own ten digit extension telephone number that is directly accessible off your own Fast Connect toll free or local 212 area code telephone number. When a caller enters your number, Fast Connect will ring you wherever you have your current ring-to destination(s) set to (like your home or your cellular phone or your home first and then your cell phone).

Each extension comes with its own personal voice mailbox or any combination of Message Bureau Services including Fast Connect and Virtual Office. This gives callers the ability to leave you (or your employees as your grow) a message if your line is busy or you're unavailable to take a call (you know "I'm either on the phone or away from my desk.."). It also gives you and your employee the ability to retrieve your own messages anytime, anywhere, without having to call in and check with a receptionist or secretary. And if you carry a pager or use email, Fast Connect will automatically deliver new messages so you can respond to callers more quickly.

Frequently asked question I do most of my business in my local calling area. Do I have to use a toll free number or can Fast Connect work on my local line?
Answer Fortunately, Fast Connect service is offered via a toll free number or a local "212"area code number.  If you want to continue to have callers dial your local number (because it's established in the phone book or you want to project a local image, you can forward your local number to your Fast Connect or Virtual Office toll free or 212 number to enjoy the benefits of our service.  Of course, if the calls do end up on your toll free number, you will still pay the rate per minute associated with the service..
Frequently asked question Do I get my own toll free number or is it like other services that use a common 800 number for everybody and I'm just an extension off of it?
Answer When you subscribe to Fast Connect or Virtual Office, or any Message Bureau service,  you are assigned your own unique "customer friendly" 888, 877 or 866 or 212 number to use as you wish in advertising, on your business cards, brochures etc.  Message Bureau also offers true 800 numbers when available for an additional fee.
Frequently asked question Can I use my existing toll free number with any Message Bureau service?
Answer Yes, we can "port" your existing toll free number over to Message Bureau to use with your particular Message Bureau  service. While technically we will have temporary ownership of your number (that's how the Long Distance Carriers look at it) we will immediately release your number back to you upon service termination and satisfaction of any outstanding balance you may have. Please note that while most accounts are turned up within 24 hours, porting a toll free number takes up to 15 business days and there is a one time fee of $25 associated with it.  We will set you up with a temporary number so you can get your account all set up and ready to go when your toll free number moves over to us - then it will be a seamless change.
Frequently asked question Can I use multiple toll free numbers if I want?
Answer Sure. You can have several toll free numbers all point to your account so they'll all be handled the same way or you can set up separate accounts for each toll free number to handle them uniquely.
Frequently asked question Who will bill me for my telephone usage, you or the phone company?
Answer Message Bureau Services will bill you at our very competitive rate for any calls placed to your toll free number. You will continue to receive your regular bills for local telephone service from your Bell company and long distance calls you place from your long distance carrier.
Frequently asked question How long does it take to get set up?
Answer In most cases you and your customers can start enjoying your new Message Bureau service within 24 hours from the time you place your order...so hurry and call today!
